Following the donation Docler Holding made in February
2014 to the Kanner-Jugendtelefon in order to develop their eHELP initiative, a
new online counselling helpline for English-speaking parents living in
Luxembourg, the organisation was able to start trainings for online/phone counselling with 20 volunteers.
The first training weekend was carried out on the 25th and
26th of April 2014. The purpose was to bring the group
together, to strengthen connections and to reflect on their motivation as a
volunteer. After this weekend, the volunteers met every Wednesday evening. They
learned about active listening and the three interrelated attitudes on the part
of the counsellor (congruence, unconditional positive regard and empathy) of
Carl Rogers. They reflected on adolescence, the challenging period for children
and parents, about Cyber bullying and what do parents need when they were
confronted with suicide or suicidal ideation. A number of trainings are already
planned for 2014 and 2015.

In parallel, the organisation and its volunteers
started to translate the website
www.kjt.lu,
which is the platform for the eHELP, where parents can contact the online
counsellors through a web form. It is also a platform filled with useful
information for children, youngsters and parents.
The article that appeared in in the “Luxemburger Wort”
also engendered positive impact and visibility. Indeed, more than 30 people
expressed great interest in supporting the project and a number of volunteers
joined the organisation.
Docler
Holding is really proud to be associated to such a successful and positive
initiative.
